I spent a pleasant evening yesterday at the monthly meeting of the Sustainable Development & Energy Committee, the part of the Rockville Environment Commission tasked with developing guidelines and recommendations to the Mayor and Council on policies in areas including energy efficiency, climate protection, green buildings and renewable energy.

Present at the meeting were Lea Rosenbohm and Clark Reed and, by speakerphone, John Becker. Kudos to this small and energetic group for managing to get through a large agenda in under an hour - a first for me at a City Hall meeting!

On the table for discussion were ways to celebrate and involve the more than 70 Rockville homeowners who currently have solar installations in further promoting solar in Rockville; participating in the 2013 National Solar & Green Homes Tour; obtaining more information about local permitting procedures and other logistics of solar installation and working with City staff to get that information out to interested residents; consideration of entering the Georgetown University Energy Prize, and of signing on to the Resilient Communities for America Agreement.

The group meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm in City Hall. Meetings are open to any Rockville residents interested in sustainable development or renewable/efficient energy.
