Stories Inherited (www.storiesinherited.com), a personal and corporate history company, announced today that for every Stories Inherited life story project purchased prior to the end of the year, the company will document for free the life story of a terminally ill patient.
Inspired by the buy-one, give-one model made popular by TOMS Shoes, Stories Inherited wants to help the families of terminally ill patients preserve the life stories of their ailing loved one. "Documenting the stories and experiences of a loved one is an important task for all families," says Lauryn Sargent, President and Personal Historian. "However, completing that task can be especially difficult for families of terminally ill patients for emotional and financial reasons. We're pleased to be able to help."
As it turns out, the process of documenting someone's life story is therapeutic for the storyteller. "Our interviewees have told us that sharing their story made them feel a lot better," says Scott Thompson, Vice President and Personal Historian. "For some, it's the peace-of-mind that comes with knowing that their story will be preserved for generations. For others, it's the revival of fond memories that completely lifts their spirits."
A personal history makes an excellent gift, providing a therapeutic activity for the storyteller and a treasured heirloom for the family of the storyteller. In light of the announcement by Stories Inherited, which comes in time for the holiday season, giving the gift of a personal history will spread additional cheer - to a family that could really use some.
